TEACHING:
The recruited person will join the teaching team of the Biological Engineering Department at IUT Lyon, part of the Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University. The Biological Engineering Department hosts 3 courses in the Biological Engineering BUT (Dietetics and Nutrition, Medical Biology and Biotechnologies, Agronomy), 3 professional licenses and a DIU. The department is made up of 33 teachers, associated professors and professors, 8 technical and administrative staff, and between 350 and 400 students. He/she will be part of the microbiology teaching team made up of 5 teachers and will teach general bacteriology for the three courses in the 1st and 2nd years of the BUT, as well as medical microbiology for the BMB course during the three years of the course (bacteriology, virology, parasitology). The recruited person will also be required to develop and supervise student projects set up as part of the SAé (Situations d'Apprentissage et Évaluation), including the assessment of these projects. The candidate recruited will also be involved in student recruitment and the on-the-job supervision of trainees and apprentices as well as in the different defense comittees. To facilitate integration into the teaching and research teams, the person recruited will benefit from a teaching leave in the 1st year, renewable on request in the 2nd and 3rd years. Finally, the person recruited will gradually take on teaching and administrative responsibilities.

RESEARCH:
The candidate will carry out his or her research duties at the Centre International de Recherche en Infectiologie (CIRI)- INSERM U1111 - CNRS UMR5308 - ENS Lyon - Université Lyon 1 in the "Pathogenesis of Staphylococci" team headed by Pr François Vandenesch. Staphylococcus aureus represents a major threat to public health worldwide (30% of nosocomial and community-acquired infections). The team's objective is to characterise Staphylococcal diseases using an integrative approach in order to understand occurrence, virulence mechanisms and microbial clearance. To achieve this, the StaPath team works in close collaboration with the Institute of Infectious Agents at the Hospices Civils de Lyon and the National Reference Center for Staphylococci (CNR Staph, whose director is a member of the team). The recruitment is part of a wider effort to understand the impact of polymicrobial infections on the pathophysiology of Staphylococcus infections. It is essential to understand the mechanisms of microbial interaction (bacterial-bacterial, bacterial-yeast or bacterial-viral) and their clinical relevance in order to rationally guide current and future therapies. This theme, which is closely linked to clinical practice, ensures continuity between teaching and research activities. The successful candidate will be in charge to develop projects on the study of microbial interactions and their impact on the virulence of S. aureus, as well as on the host-pathogen relationship.
The candidate should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: - Genetic manipulation of bacteria - Study of the regualtion of virulence and the molecular mechanisms involved, - Development of models for studying host-pathogen interactions, - Analysis and exploitation of 'omics' data. The candidate should also be able to work as part of a team. International experience (post-doc) and project management experience would be an advantage. A good command of written and spoken English is expected in order to facilitate scientific partnerships and the submission of research projects at national and European level.
