Abstract: Contractile injection systems (CISs) are macromolecular machines that mediate microbial cell-cell interactions. The Pilhofer Lab investigates the different modes of action by which CISs function. Based on the gained mechanistic insights, we attempt to engineer CISs for biomedical applications.
