France Info News Report - Phage research in the spotlight
France Info recently dedicated a report to French research on bacteriophages, highlighting their potential as an alternative or complement to antibiotics in the contexte of rising resistant infections. They visited lyon - specifically the Institute of Infectious Agents-HCL, the CIRI, and the FRIPHARM-HCL platform - to highlight our project for the public production of therapeutic phages.
Our research is part of an integrated approach combining:
- The isolation and genomic characterization of new phages
- The study of phage-bacteria interactions, including escape and co-evolution mechanisms
- The preclinical evaluation of phage cocktails against multidrug-resistant strains
- The development of standardized experimental frameworks to support future clinical applications
This initiative represnts a major step forward:
- Phages are now recognized by the WHO as a promising solution to antibiotic resistance
- The public production ensures equitable access for patients and garantees the sustainability of the healthcare system
- The project is based on a unique collaboration between the Institute of Infectious Agents-HCL, the CIRI, and the FRIPHARM platform
We are extremely proud to be leading the PHAG-ONE et THERAPhage (ANR) projects and to see this initiative gain visibility thanks to France Info. It also proves that public research and innovation can work together to address major public health challenges.
